Mpho Makwana is Chairman of Eskom Holdings Limited, Africa's largest electricity producer. He has extensive knowledge of the company and its operations, having been a Non-Executive Director of the board of directors since 2002. He served on the board's audit committee and its human resources and remuneration committee.
Mr. Makwana is a management strategist with 20 years executive experience in both the public and the private sectors. His areas of specialization include corporate strategy and strategic change management, corporate governance, human resources management, labour relations, scenario planning and brand management.
Prior to joining Eskom, he was group executive for corporate affairs at Edcon, South Africa's largest clothing, footwear and apparel retailing group. A former Chief Executive of Saatchi & Saatchi in South Africa, he has also served on the South African boards of the Monitor Group, Ogilvy & Mather, Arabella Sheraton Hotels, Tourvest and the International Marketing Council.
Mr. Makwana is a member of the Institute of Directors, FutureWorld Network, Black Management Forum, Black Business Executives Circle (BBEC) and a fellow of the Institute of People Management. He is also a member of the Provincial Economic Advisory Committee for the Premier of Limpopo Province.
Mr. Makwana holds a Bachelor of Administration (B. Admin.) from the University of Zululand and another from the University of Pretoria (Honours), as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Retailing Management from Stirling University (Scotland).
