Lucas Van Wees, MBA, MBT, has been Vice President HR Commercial and Global for KLM since 2001. Before that, he worked for Philips, Shell and KPN in HR, management and commercial positions. Lucas has co-authored and edited many articles, including for Personnel Journal, the International Journal of Career Management and the Journal of Management Development. His contribution to a European book on human resources management in Europe, describing practices in 13 countries, was published by Routledge Ed. in 2008.

Lucas is a member of the Board of the Dutch Association of Personnel Management (NVP) and, on behalf of the NVP, a delegate for the European Association of Personnel Management (EAPM). He is also chairman of the European Jury for the first European HR Award, which was granted in June 2009 amongst some 20 participating countries. Lucas holds a B.Sc in Tourism and Leisure (Breda) and Masters in Social Sciences (Tilburg), Telecommunications (Delft) from the Netherlands and Business (IMD, Lausanne) from Switzerland.
